Weekly Roundup For The Week Of 10/8/18

Decent week of new arrivals. Let's dig right in!

Album Of The Week: John Grant-Love Is Magic
John Grant returns with another wonderful slice of misanthropic cynical and hysterical Synth Pop. This time around the songs are a bit longer and meandering but don't really suffer all that much from that. He leans heavier on the synth side of things to great effect. His time in the band Mr. Dynamite with members of Cabaret Voltaire seems to have rubbed off on him quite a bit. Another great album to add to his already incredible output.

Week Highlights:

BRONCHO returned with a really solid slice of weirdo pop. Emphasis on the POP this time around.

Dir En Grey released one of the weirdest and most intense metal albums of the year with their new one. This is a big leap forward for decent music within the horrible "Progressive Metal" tag.

Jerry Paper collaborated with what could be one of the worst current bands going these days BadBadNotGood(God that name is awful too!) and actually made his best album yet. I guess that's what happens when a bad band is directed by a talented musician.

St. Vincent released a really solid piano reworking of her album from last year. Most of the songs are actually made a lot better with the stripped down arrangements. Some don't fare so well, namely "Pills" which benefited greatly from the bonkers production on the album it originally came on.

And finally, Colter Wall released another solid slice of dusty Americana that just adds another notch to his already blossoming career.
