Weekly Roundup 9/24/18

A pretty decent week for new releases. There were a few nice surprises from bands I never really liked before. For instance, Alt-J released a hip hop remix version of their last album. While the last album was really nothing to consider this remix is really quite something else. The deconstruction alone is worth it.

Also of note of someone you wouldn't expect to make another great album this late in their career is Cypress Hill. It seems like DJ Muggs has put his past musical output to good use on this return. It's very murky and psychedelic. Pretty impressive for a group that had their heyday in the mid to late 90s.

Mudhoney have returned with their nastiest and most political album yet. Mark Arm is tired of all the bullshit and he made a raging garage rocker of an album to show us. This sounds like a super aggressive Stooges album and that's a great thing!

St. Lenox returns with another hyper literate and realistic take on societal structure with his new album. I believe this is the end of a trilogy of albums he has made. Very good stuff.

Album Of The Week:

This has got to go to the 2nd album from the awful to type band pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs or Pigs x7 for short. This is an asskicking blast of face melting hard rock. They take bits and pieces of hard rock elements and fuse them together on some extremely muscular Sabbath style metal/rock. So many twists and turns and power behind these songs. This is one of the best rock albums released this year. Don't miss out!
