Weekly Roundup 9/10/18
Some decent releases from last week! We got a return from Aphex Twin with a pretty excellent EP that recalls his work on the "Richard D. James Album"
Nice sonic leap for Slothrust. By embracing the studio they took their sound to interesting heights. Very reminiscent of 90s Alt Rock records in the best way possible.
Richard Thompson came back with a nice little album of solid tunes. It's always nice to see him pumping solid stuff out.
The album of the week is definitely Guerilla Toss's Twisted Crystal. This is the album where it all clicked. I've always respected the hell out of them for exploring the boundaries between experimental and pop sensibilities. With that being said, up until now I feel their potential between these two styles was not fully realized. This album is the perfect gelling of those two desperate styles. They use a vast array of instruments to create catchy yet completely alien songs. There is pop structure but it's all shot to hell while not sacrificing any pop melodies. Highly recommended!
