Monthly Roundup: June 2018
Highlights of the highlights:
After the disappointing(at least to me) "Pure Comedy" Father John Misty returns with an excellent album. By paring down the song lengths and overwrought lyrical musings he succeeds greatly with another light hearted jab at social commentary.
Sami Baha...All I can say is thank god someone is doing new things with Trap.
Howlin Rain released their best album yet bu focusing on loose jams and a loose concept.
Shannon Shaw of Shannon and The Clams fame released a great solo album full of rich doo wop melodies and old timey sounds.
One of the weirdest and most intriguing albums was released by the experimental group Tangents. Full of weird interesting sounds they craft a world unto themselves with this one and solidify themselves as an excellent figure within the experimental rock music scene.
Arp released an awesome album of inspired tropical and laid back new age anthems. This one is good for a hot summer night with a cold drink in hand.
Death Grips put out one of their weirdest and most interesting releases with Year Of The Snitch. The amount of creativity within this record is ridiculous. This is their best since Government Plates.
Who needs another band that sounds like old school weirdo punk and Parquet Courts? When it's as good as Dumb's new album then the answer is: we all do.
One of the nastiest and weirdest mashing of genres comes in the form of metalcore band Vein's album "errorzone". This album is off the wall ridiculous. A good comparison would be something like The Blood Brothers Burn, Piano Island, Burn but with a lot more electronic influence. This one is nuts!
And last but not least, we have the excellent return of The Rock*A*Teens. After 18 years of silence they come roaring back with what may be their best album yet.
So buckle up and fire up that spotify playlist below and proceed to rock the hell out in this awful summer heat!
