Monthly Roundup August 2017
Welcome to our August 2017 edition of our monthly roundup!
This month had a lot of releases in it and the pace is not going to slow down
much heading towards the end of the year. Expect a lot of goodies in the next 4
month updates! Below are the highlights of the highlights!
UPDATED: SPOTIFY LIST!
Naomi Punk dropped their double album "Yellow" on
us, it's a lot to take in and I'm sure not everyone will love all of the
experimentation but I do have to say it is impressive in it's scope and there
is a lot to dig into here.
Randy Newman hit us over the head with another
Socio-Political gem in the form of "Dark Matter" I mean in these
trying times who wouldn't want to hear songs making fun of Putin and people who
deny Climate Change?
The underground band Arrows Of Love dropped a nasty little
slice of noisy rock on us that takes politics to task and our ears are better
for it!
Hamel On Trial who is a veteran of the Anti-Folk
scene(Regina Spektor, Moldy Peaches) dropped a real barnburner on us. He is
extremely pissed off at the state of affairs and wants everyone to know about
it. Half spoken word half sung this is a must hear.
We got a very decent weirdo R&B album from So Much
Light. This is a real weird one and if you can stomach the schmaltz of it is a
very rewarding listen
One of my old favorites Trailer Trash Tracys return with a
revamping of their sound to move farther away from a Cocteau Twins meets Jesus
and Mary Chain to something totally weird and wholly their own sound. Highly
recommended.
Dent May released what could possibly go down as his
masterpiece with "Across The Multiverse" Think Brian Wilson, Nilsson
and Panda Bear all blended up singing piano based hits for the modern era.
And finally, we have a great return to form with the new
Queens Of The Stone Age album. I felt they had quite the misstep with the
previous album's plodding boring song writing. This is QOTSA back with a fire
lit under their asses. This will get you movin' Highly Recommended.
