Monthly Roundup June 2017
Hi Everybody! Welcome to our monthly roundup for June 2017!
There was 1 extra Friday this month so there is just a little bit more music
for you all us all to take in! Overall a pretty good month for releases. Below
are some of the highlights amongst the highlights:
UPDATED: SPOTIFY LIST!
Dan Auerbach of Black Keys fame put out an excellent chilled
out album that echoes some of the best work by Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty!
Richard Dawson returns with a song cycle about old timey
Europe which sounds like what would happen if Robert Wyatt fronted The
Incredible String Band.
Mutoid Man followed up their decent first album with this
monster of an album. Almost sounds like Maynard from Tool fronting a harder
Queens of the Stone Age in parts. Some may find the vocals annoying but I think
they all add up to create one of the most fun rocking albums of the year, very
much like The Pleaser by Harvey Milk.
Wheeler Walker Jr. returns with another slice of pervy
rauncheriffic country tunes to blow your hair back. NSF anywhere.
The Secret Sisters perfected their formula of old timey
country and close harmonies on their 3rd release. A must have for fans of older
folk and country.
Thanks to Kevin Nelson for showing me Igorrr. This album is
easily one of the most out there ridiculous things I have heard in a long time.
This single musician blends Baroque classical music, opera, metal and breakbeat
techno to create something wholly original. If you are into hearing something
truly unique you must listen to this album.
Colin Stetson surprises with this release. He teams up with
Greg Fox of Liturgy fame to make a really noisy nasty experimental metal/jazz
album.
