Most Overrated Albums Of 2020

Once again critics need to stop taking kickbacks or whatever the fuck is happening behind the scenes. Yet another crop of(mostly) crap being peddled to the masses on the back of a great PR firm. Oh how I dream of the days when critics had integrity and cared about moving sounds forward and celebrating the evolution of music instead of cow towing to what's "acceptable" and what sells. 

There is no Spotify list for this. The decent albums can be found on the other end of the year lists and the bad albums don't deserve a listen.

Fiona Apple-Fetch The Bolt Cutters

The only reason this is on here is that besides myself and fans a lot of people do not think this is either a perfect 10 or the best album of the year and based on the number of critics falling over themselves(myself included) to include this there are a large number of people who will think this is overrated due to highly it was received. 

Arca-Kick I

So much worse than her single track craziness released this year. That release showcased her wide ranging talent and showed just what she could do. This release felt like a horrible cash grab with uesless awful guest appearances. We didn't need her to go pop or this shitty "weird rnb" route. Stick to the wild sonic experimentation and leave the made in a marketing meeting music in the trash. 

Autechre-Sign

Nothing new here. In fact their schtick is starting to get really old and boring. I have a feeling critics picked this one for their lists because they don't actually listen to a lot of electronic music. 

Bad Bunny-YHLQMDLG

People really like this trash? How does this stand above other Reggaeton? Is this really the best Reggaton had to offer in 2020? This stuff is really horrible.

Phoebe Bridgers-The Punisher

While it's not terrible by any means it still is nothing really special. It's dime a dozen female fronted Indie Rock, which is fine, but there were tons of albums that are it's equal and quite a few that are much better and have more creativity than this one. Not a bad thing to check out just keep your ears open for better shit out there and don't vault middle of the road stuff like this to great heights on your list. 

Caribou-Suddenly

His music is so farty now that it actually makes a lot of sense a lot of idiots liked this. 

Charli XCX-How I'm Feeling Now

She has never been good, she isn't good now....oh boy she recorded this alone by herself due to quarantine! but the music sucks you say? well then who cares how it was written and recorded.

Deftones-Ohms

It's not awful, but if you pick this for your top 10 then you have no idea what metal is and are most likely on a lame nostalgia trip.

Bob Dylan-Rough And Rowdy Ways

It's a super solid Dylan album, thank god it's better than his religious period. But that's all it is, a solid Dylan album that leans into his modern old timey style. This isn't a bad album to put on a list but there's so much better Americana that came out this year to justify a top 10 spot. 

Fleet Foxes-Shore

They continue to bore and they continue to make it on year end top 10 lists. There was a shitload of much better folk albums that came out this year yet for some reason i'm not seeing any on any of the year end lists.

Fontaines D.C.-A Hero's Death

The most dime a dozen paint by numbers Post Punk band in recent memory. Not really sure why so many people flip their lids over this. I listen to a ton of Punk and Post Punk and this is just a lazy meandering snorefest.

Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist-Alfredo

So far this might be my favorite Gibbs release. That doesn't mean I love it or his rapping. The album is saved from one of the most mediocre MCs by having interesting production. There's at least 30 other Hip Hop albums I would pick before putting this on any kind of list. 

Haim-Women In Music Pt. III

This did nothing for the evolution of music in general and it did nothing for the evolution and history of women in music either. It does so happen to be the best Haim album so far but that's like saying one piece of shit is shinier than the other pieces of shit in a toilet. It's still shit. 

Imperial Triumphant-Alphaville

Insanely overrated metal release that does nothing for either pushing the genre forward or pushing my enjoyment forward. 

Lil Uzi Vert-Eternal Atake

Dime a dozen Trap that's getting the obligatory best Trap album of the year status. Boring and not a highlight.

Dua Lipa-Future Nostalgia

Yet again another dime a dozen dancy pop album. Who cares?

Kelly Lee Owens-Inner Song

One of the most generic, safe and boring electronic albums of the year. You know when you are an electronic musician and you cover Radiohead on your album then you really have run out of ideas. 

Perfume Genius-Set Your Heart On Fire Immediately

Extremely overerated moody introspective Indie Pop brooder of the year award album. Tons of people did this style and tons of people did it better.

Porridge Radio-Every Bad

The same thing as said above for Perfume Genius except replace Indie Pop with Indie Rock? What makes this stand above the pack? I couldn't tell you.

Sault-Untitled(Black Is)/Untitled(Rise)

It's not horrible but its also not really deserving of universal praise either. It's moody Soul stuff, so I guess this is what critics pick when Beyonce or Solange don't have a new album out. 

Rina Sawayama-Sawayama

Same comment as above about Beyonce and Solange. I guess critics have to pick one when the others aren't around. Congrats Rina you win!

Chris Stapleton-Starting Over

People really liked this. I guess they really must not like Country Music. 

Tame Impala-The Slow Rush

His albums after Lonerism just keep getting worse and worse. This is no exception and might be the worst one yet. He needs to put down the vintage synths and pick up a guitar again and he needs to stop listening to his "yes men".

Taylor Swift-Folklore

HAHA this album got marketed to everyone as some kind of Indie Folk, worships at the feet of Elliott Smith, I even saw people say this was her doing Nick Drake. It's not. It's terrible. What it is, a bunch of Taylor Swift pop songs slowed down and run through production by Bon Iver and one of the idiots from The National. Her singing is still in that awful mainstream pop cadence. If you liked this you were either an idiot or lying to yourself to seem more relatable to other people. 

Taylor Swift-Evermore

Same thing as above this is the Amnesiac to Folklore's Kid A, same shit different.....release.

Jessie Ware-What's Your Pleasure

Such fart garbage it hurts. We don't need anymore of these god awful pop/rnb crossover singers anymore. Please flush it down the musical toilet. 

The Weeknd-After Hours

Such crap. I can't believe people like this. I guess shitty weddings and dance parties need a soundtrack. Keep this crap away from my ears. 

Yves Tumor-Heaven To A Tortured Mind

Yet another case of the obligatory "Experimental" album nod going to this idiot. This is what people who have no idea what Experimental music sounds like buy to help them feel part of something they have no idea about.
